Why this role is written up before it exists
A rider judges a Robotaxi in the first three seconds: is it clean. There is no driver to apologize for a cup in the door pocket, and a camera with a film of road grime is a vehicle that should not be carrying anyone. The people who make a vehicle clean and camera-clear between rides, many times a day, do the most visible work at a hub, and on our Careers page they bring as many items to the weekly improvement review as the technicians do. We have written this role up now so the people who take pride in that kind of work know there will be a place for it, and what it would ask of them.
This page describes a role we expect to create. It is not an open position and not an offer of employment.
What this role would be
An entry-level member of a hub's cleaning and detailing crew. You would turn vehicle interiors around between rides, run scheduled full details, wash exteriors so every camera and sensor is clear, and record each of those to the same standard every time. The rider defines quality here: clean as the rider experiences it, not as the crew remembers it. Reliability and pride in the work matter more than prior experience, and there would be a written ladder from this role to detailing lead.
What you would do
- Turn interiors around between rides against a written checklist: seats, floors, door pockets, screens, and the smell of the cabin, with a time and your name on each one.
- Run scheduled full details on the hub's calendar, and exterior washes that leave every camera, sensor cover, and light clear, checked against a card that shows what clear looks like.
- Handle cleaning products and any fluids by the hazardous-material rules you were trained on, in the kit and quantities the procedure sets out.
- Move among vehicles that move themselves under the floor's site rules, and never step into a bay a vehicle is entering.
- Log anything a rider left behind into lost-and-found the same shift, and log any damage or fault you find so a technician sees it before the next ride.
- Pull a vehicle from the launch-ready line yourself if it fails the cleanliness standard. There is no partially clean.
- Bring one waste, delay, or near miss to the weekly improvement review, with a number where one exists.
- Qualify on each task on the ladder by demonstrating it to someone already qualified, and re-qualify when a procedure changes.
Who you would be
- You do not need prior experience. You need to show up on time, every shift, and care whether the work was done right when nobody is checking.
- You are comfortable with repetition done well: the same checklist, the same order, the same result, many times a shift.
- You are physically fit for the work, which is on your feet and bending into vehicles, and sober on shift without exception.
- You are willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a fair rotation, because vehicles are cleaned when riders are not in them.
- You notice things: a scratch, a smell, a loose cover, a phone under a seat, and you write them down rather than assume someone else will.
- You want to move up. Detailing lead, shift lead, and the technician ladder are all written down, and pay would follow them.
How the work would be measured
Turnaround time per interior against the standard; vehicles pulled for cleanliness before a ride, which is good, against rider cleanliness complaints after one, which is a defect; camera-clear rate at departure; and the tasks you have qualified on and when. None of these numbers exist yet, because there are no vehicles yet. The targets belong on the posting, not on this page, and we intend to publish them with it.
What the posting would add that this page cannot
- A pay range, and the ladder steps it follows. We intend to list a range on every open role.
- The hub, the metro, the shift pattern, and the start date.
- Background and drug-testing requirements consistent with our insurers and with North Carolina law, stated in the posting.
- Benefits, and the safety training we would provide before anyone works on the floor.
